Rangers' Callahan out with broken leg

NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- New York Rangers right wing Ryan Callahan, his team fighting for a playoff spot, is out indefinitely with a broken right leg, the team said Tuesday.

General Manager Glen Sather said Callahan suffered the injury in the Rangers' win over Boston Monday when he blocked a shot from Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara with 1:45 left in the game.

Callahan earlier missed 19 games after breaking a hand while blocking a shot in a Dec. 15 win over Pittsburgh.

He has 77 blocks this season -- fifth-best among forwards in the NHL -- to go with a career-best 23 goals and 48 points in 60 games.

New York is tied with Montreal with 91 points in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Buffalo is in eighth place with 90 points and Carolina is ninth with 87.
