FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., April 1 (UPI) -- Dennis Rodman attended a reception in his honor ahead of the planned retiring of his No. 10 Detroit Piston's jersey during Friday night's game against Chicago.

Rodman arrived at the Ginopolis Restaurant in Farmington Hills at 8:30 p.m. Thursday for the reception in his honor ahead of Friday's halftime ceremony at The Palace of Auburn Hills, the Detroit Free Press reported Friday.

"I thought it was an April Fools' joke when they called me about it the first time," Rodman said. "I was shocked. I don't think I should have my jersey retired because I was probably the fifth most important guy on those teams."

"I was little nervous about coming back at first," he said. "But it's great seeing everybody."
