COL BKB: Vanderbilt 87, Mississippi St. 81

ATLANTA, March 12 (UPI) -- John Jenkins scored seven points over two late possessions Friday to bring No. 24 Vanderbilt an 87-71 win over Mississippi State in the SEC quarterfinals.

The Commodores will take on Florida Saturday in the second of the semifinal matchups. Alabama and Kentucky will meet in the first semifinal.

The score was tied when Jenkins was fouled attempting a 3-point shot with 2:01 remaining. He made all three foul shots to put Vanderbilt in front and, after Mississippi State's Renardo Sidney made a layup, Jenkins hit a 3-pointer with 1:34 to play.

Jenkins was fouled on that shot and his ensuing free throw gave the Commodores the lead by five.

Jenkins scored 29 points and Jeffrey Taylor had 20 for Vanderbilt (23-9).

Mississippi State (17-14) was led by 22 points from Sidney.
