NHL: Dallas 4, Minnesota 0

DALLAS, March 11 (UPI) -- Kari Lehtonen was called upon to make only 14 saves while picking up his first shutout of the season Friday and bringing Dallas a 4-0 victory over Minnesota.

The Stars jumped all the way from seventh place to fourth in the Western Conference standings, a point in front of Chicago, Phoenix and Calgary -- and pulled within three points of San Jose in the race for the Pacific Division title.

Minnesota suffered its second straight 4-0 setback and has lost five out of seven.

Jamie Benn opened the scoring with 7:58 to go in the first period and Dallas blew the game open with a three-goal second. Trevor Daley, Tom Wandell and Mike Ribeiro scored in a span of less than 2 minutes to bring the Stars their third win in four games.

Jose Theodore allowed all four goals on 31 shots.
