TARVISIO, Italy, March 5 (UPI) -- American Lindsey Vonn clinched her fourth consecutive women's downhill title Saturday with a second-place finish in the World Cup race at Tarvisio, Italy.

Vonn finished with a time of 1 minute, 27.64 seconds, nearly a second behind race winner Anja Paerson of Sweden, but it built her lead over Germany's Maria Riesch to 143 points, enough to put her over the top and win the coveted crystal globe trophy.

"Downhill is my favorite discipline and I just love going fast so I'm really happy to get my fourth consecutive downhill globe," Vonn said. "It's amazing and it means the world to me."

Vonn won the super-combined title on Friday and has a chance to capture the globe in the super-G on Sunday.

Elisabeth Goergl of Austria placed third in Saturday's race with a 1:28.08. Julia Mancuso of the United States came in 10th.

Riesch, who finished sixth Saturday, still leads the overall World Cup standings for the season by 136 points over Vonn with seven events left on the schedule.
