COL BKB: Notre Dame 70, Connecticut 67

STORRS, Conn., March 5 (UPI) -- Tyrone Nash scored six of his 13 points late in the game Saturday and No. 7 Notre Dame rallied to edge 16th-ranked Connecticut 70-67.

Nash's jumper and foul shot with 3:55 remaining cut Connecticut's lead to 65-63, and his assist on Scott Martin's jumper 45 seconds later enabled the Fighting Irish (25-5, 14-4 Big East) to tie the score at 65.

Tim Abromaitis (11 points, seven rebounds) made a layup with 2:14 left to give Notre Dame the lead for good and Nash sank three free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

Ben Hansbrough scored 21 points and Carleton Scott added 13 for the Irish, who needed a loss by Pittsburgh to clinch the Big East title.

Kemba Walker poured in 34 points for the Huskies (21-9, 9-9), who honored him and the team's seniors before the game. Walker, a junior, will finish his degree this summer and has announced plans to participate in May graduation ceremonies.

Walker is a projected NBA first-round draft pick.
