BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Jiri Hudler sent the game into overtime with a late goal and then netted the shootout winner Saturday in the Detroit Red Wings' 3-2 victory over Buffalo.
Hudler poked in the rebound of a shot by Danny Cleary with only 58 seconds remaining in the third period to forge a tie, and after a scoreless overtime, ended it when he beat Ryan Miller with a backhander to the glove side in the shootout.
Pavel Datsyuk also scored for Detroit, which avoided a third straight loss.
Joey MacDonald stopped 30-of-32 shots and turned aside Buffalo's Drew Stafford and Thomas Vanek in the shootout.
Andrej Sekera scored and assisted on Mike Grier's first-period goal for the Sabres, who pulled to within two points of Carolina for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Miller ended the loss with 35 saves.
