Suarez Navarro moves to semis in Colombia

BOGOTA, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- No. 5-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro claimed one of four semifinal slots Friday at the WTA tournament in Colombia.

Suarez Navarro, the last seeded player remaining in the draw, defeated Han Xinyun 6-4, 6-3 by converting four of her 14 break-point chances. Suarez Navarro dropped serve just once in the match.

She'll go against Mathilde Johansson in Saturday's semifinals. Johansson edged past local favorite Catalina Castano 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in her quarterfinal match.

Lourdes Dominguez Lino and Petra Martic also moved into weekend play. Dominguez Lino topped Beatriz Garcia Vidagany 6-4, 6-3, while Martic was a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 winner over Laura Pous-Tio.

Dominguez Lino is the only one of the four semifinalists who has won a WTA event.
