BOGOTA, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- The fate of top-seeded Julia Goerges will have to wait a day after rain washed out her second-round match against Han Xinyun at the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota.
Germany's Goerges won the opening set 7-5, dropped the middle frame 3-6 and was trailing China's Han 4-5 in the third set when rain halted play. The pair had been on the court for 2 hours, 19 minutes before the delay.
Rain interfered with play for the third straight day in Bogota, but some of the scheduled second-round matches were completed.
No. 5 seed Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain turned back Austria's Patricia Mayr-Achleitner 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, but fourth-seeded Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja was bounced in the completion of match started Tuesday, falling 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to qualifier Beatriz Garcia Vidagany.
Also Wednesday, Mathilde Johansson of France handled Austria's Yvonne Meusburger 6-4, 6-0, and Colombian favorite Catalina Castano rallied to overcome Canadian qualifier Sharon Fichman 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
