WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Former New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens, charged with lying to Congress, has waived concerns his lawyer briefly represented a ex-teammate, officials said.

The seven-time Cy Young winner appeared in U.S. District Court in Washington Wednesday and waived concerns his attorney briefly represented ex-teammate Andy Pettitte, The Washington Post reported.

Clemens and Pettitte were named in a 2007 report involving the use of steroids and human growth hormone. Attorney Rusty Hardin represented both men before Pettitte decided to get his own attorney and admit to drug use.

Pettitte could be called on to testify against his former teammate.

Clemens has been charged with obstruction of Congress, perjury and making false statements relating to testimony before a House panel in 2008, in which he said he never used the performance-enhancing drugs.

He has pleaded not guilty to six felony counts.

Hardin said another member of Clemens' legal team who has had no involvement with Pettitte would handle that part of the case.
