Petzschner wins at Zagreb Indoor

ZAGREB, Croatia, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- No. 7-seeded Philipp Petzschner advanced in straight sets Tuesday in first-round play at the Zagreb Indoors tennis tournament in Croatia.

Petzschner was the only seeded player on Tuesday's six-match schedule. Two seeded players won and No. 6 Marcel Granollers lost Monday while the top four seeds, including No. 1 and two-time defending champion Marin Cilic, were given first-round byes.

Petzschner faced just one break point in a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jan Hajek. Petzschner landed only 42 percent of his first serves but still won 71 percent of the points on serve.

Qualifier Alex Bogomolov Jr. won a pair of tiebreakers in a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) win over the home-standing Antonio Veic. Bogomolov made the second round despite dropping serve twice in each set.

Also Tuesday, Igor Kunitsyn beat Jaroslav Pospisil 6-3, 6-2; Radek Stepanek ousted Stefan Koubek 6-3, 6-2; Blaz Kavcic earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Mischa Zverev; and Daniel Brands advanced over Ivo Karlovic 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-1) despite a 32-ace attack by Karlovic.
