NBA picks Howard, Aldridge for awards

NEW YORK, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- The NBA Monday picked Orlando center Dwight Howard and Portland forward LaMarcus Aldridge as its top players of the past week.

Howard won the Eastern Conference award after averaging 26 points and 13 rebounds as the Magic went 3-1 in the week ended Sunday.

Aldridge was named the Western Conference player of the week after averaging 28.3 points and 10.3 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who went 4-0.

Other players considered for the weekly honors were Atlanta's Joe Johnson, Charlotte's D.J. Augustin, Denver's Carmelo Anthony, the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin, and New Orleans' David West.
