NEW YORK, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Mike Green, Patrick Kane, Ryan Kesler and Martin St. Louis Saturday were named as alternate captains for the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh, N.C.
Green of the Washington Capitals and Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks will join the squad captained by Eric Staal from the host Carolina Hurricanes while Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning's St. Louis will assist on the team headed by Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings.
The National Hockey League Players Association and the NHL selected the four alternate captains on recommendations provided by the all-star players.
Their roles will include helping with the team captains choose up sides during a Jan. 28 draft for the Jan. 30 contest.
They'll also help choose the lineups for the Jan. 29 NHL SuperSkills competition.
