NHL: Tampa Bay 3, Washington 0

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Dwayne Roloson made 23 saves Wednesday, shutting out Washington for the second time in eight days, to bring the Tampa Bay Lighting a 3-0 win over the Capitals.

Roloson won for the third time in four appearance for the Lightning since being obtained from the New York Islanders. He blanked Washington Jan. 4 in his Tampa Bay debut, and did it again Wednesday for the 26th shutout of his 13-year career.

Dominic Moore and Sean Bergenheim scored in the opening period and Simon Gagne added a tally with 1:42 left in the second.

Tampa Bay moved two points in front of Washington for the lead in the Southeast Division. The Lightning recorded their seventh win in their last eight home games.

Semyon Varlamov took the loss while making 35 saves.

It was the first time since Dec. 18 that the Capitals had not picked up at least one point, having gone 6-0-3 in their previous nine games.
