NEWARK, N.J., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- David Clarkson started a five-goal, third-period outburst Sunday that carried the New Jersey Devils to a 6-3 victory over Tampa Bay.
Clarkson's goal 4 minutes into the final frame was his second of the game and set off a Devils scoring flurry that included markers by Jason Arnott, Dainius Zubrus, Patrik Elias and Nick Palmeiri.
Elias, Ilya Kovalchuk and Brian Rolston each registered two assists for the Devils, who improved to just 3-15-0 in their last 18 games.
Martin Brodeur made 33 saves for New Jersey.
Tampa Bay got goals from Teddy Purcell and Ryan Malone and Dan Ellis made 20 saves.
