COL BKB: Penn State 57, Illinois 55

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Talor Battle's 26 points led Penn State to a 57-55 win over 16th-ranked Illinois Tuesday.

Battle scored 17 of his 26 points in the second half and put up a missed shot with 0.7 seconds to play that Andrew Jones turned into the winning basket on a slam dunk.

The victory was the second in a row over a ranked opponent for Penn State (10-6, 3-2 Big Ten).

Jones scored 12 points and was the only other player in double figures for the Nittany Lions, who shot just 34.6 percent from the field but were perfect in 14 free-throw tries.

Mike Tisdale scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Illinois (13-4, 3-1). Demetri McCamey added 10 points. The Illini shot 41.3 percent from the field.

The score was tied 25-25 at halftime, and Illinois' Bill Cole tied the game again at 55-55 on a layup with 22 seconds to play.
