PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Stephen McGee found Jason Witten with a 4-yard scoring pass in the final minute Sunday and the Dallas Cowboys edged Philadelphia 14-13.
McGee made his first career start in a game that had no playoff implications for the NFC East champion Eagles and responded by going 11-of-27 through the air for 127 yards and a touchdown, providing a pleasing end to a disappointing season for the 6-10 Cowboys.
After struggling to a 1-7 start that got head Coach Wade Phillips fired, Jason Garrett took over and guided the Cowboys to a 5-3 record. The Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported Sunday that owner Jerry Jones is set to hire Garrett as the team's permanent coach.
The Eagles (10-6) didn't play many of their starters, including quarterback Michael Vick, who is nursing a quad injury.
His backup, Kevin Kolb, completed 18-of-36 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown but was picked off three times.
The Eagles also got 99 yards on 21 carries from Jerome Harrison in the setback.
