EAST LANSING, Mich., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Durrell Summers led a late-game rush Friday that allowed No. 19 Michigan State to pull away for a 71-62 victory over 13th-ranked Minnesota.
The Spartans opened their Big Ten Conference schedule with their first game in nine days, having been idle since falling to Texas Dec. 22.

Minnesota had a six-point lead at halftime but Michigan State caught up with 13 minutes to go and then rushed to a 15-point lead with less than 5 minutes remaining.
Summers made four 3-point shots and scored 19 points and Draymond Green had 14 points and six rebounds for the Spartans (9-4).
The Golden Gophers have lost their first two conference games after going 11-1 in non-league play. Trevor Mbakwe led Minnesota with 17 points.
