NHL: Buffalo 4, Edmonton 2

EDMONTON, Alberta, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Two goals and an assist from Mike Weber helped carry the Buffalo Sabres past Edmonton 4-2 Tuesday.

The Sabres managed a modest 21 shots on goal against Edmonton's Nikolai Khabibulin, including 11 in the first period, and rallied with three unanswered goals that erased the Oilers' early 1-0 lead.

Ryan Miller recorded 29 saves on 31 shots. Dustin Penner and Ryan Jones accounted for Edmonton's two scores.

Penner grabbed a loose puck in the slot and fired it past Miller just 1:27 into the game.

Buffalo got on the board at 17:58 of the first period on a goal by Luke Adams and then took the lead for good at 3:33 of the second period on Weber's first goal of the night.

Jochen Hecht made it 3-1 at 2:45 of the third period. Jones cut the Buffalo lead to one goal with a tip-in at 6:18 but Weber closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds.
