ST. LOUIS, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Matt Cassel returned from an injury to pass for 184 yards and a score Sunday in the Kansas City Chiefs' 27-13 decision over St. Louis.
Cassel missed last week's 31-0 loss to the San Diego after undergoing a Dec. 8 appendectomy and was limited in practice this week.
But he came back with a strong game for the Chiefs (9-5), who kept their one-game lead over the Chargers in the AFC West.
Cassel completed 15-of-29 passes, Thomas Jones ran 22 times for 62 yards and a touchdown and Jamal Charles ran 11 times for 126 yards in the victory.
The Rams (6-8) were led by Sam Bradford, who went 21-of-43 through the air for 181 yards, joining Peyton Manning and Matt Ryan as the only rookies in NFL history to throw for 3,000 yards in their first years.
