NFL: San Diego 31, Kansas City 0

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- San Diego's Phillip Rivers threw two first-half touchdowns to Malcolm Floyd Sunday and the Chargers romped to a 31-0 win over AFC West rival Kansas City.

Rivers connected on 18-of-24 passes for 226 yards and was intercepted once while guiding the Chargers (7-6) to a crucial victory that kept alive their hopes of claiming the division.

Mike Tolbert (16 carries for 66 yards) and Ryan Matthews (16, 65) each scored rushing touchdowns as San Diego amassed 426 yards of total offense while limiting the Chiefs to a paltry 67.

Kansas City (8-5) could manage only five first downs. Backup quarterback Brodie Croyle was 7-of-17 for a mere 40 yards after starter Matt Cassel missed the game while recovering from an appendectomy.

Despite the loss, the Chiefs hold a one-game lead in the AFC West.
