NHL: Buffalo 6, San Jose 3

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Paul Gaustad and Thomas Vanek combined to score the first two and last two goals of the game Thursday, pushing Buffalo to a 6-3 win over San Jose.

The Sabres built a 3-0 lead, then saw the Sharks twice close their deficit to one. Gaustad and Vanek both scored during the final minute to decide the contest.

San Jose had won its previous two games.

Gaustad tipped in a shot by Cody McCormick midway through the first period, Vanek scored on a slap shot early in the second and Jason Pominville delivered a shorthanded goal 7 minutes later to put the Sabres in control.

Logan Couture and Marc-Edouard Vlasic tallied less than 4 minutes apart late in the second to get the Sharks back in the contest. This was the 28th game of the season for Vlasic and he had been without a point until Thursday.

Ryan Miller made 26 saves to get the win. Antti Niemi allowed five goals on 36 shots.
