Hjorth passes Yang for LPGA Tour title

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Maria Hjorth overcame windy conditions Sunday to shoot an even-par 72 and claim victory at the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship in Florida.

The skillful round allowed Hjorth to finish at 5-under 283 and post a come-from-behind win over third-round leader Amy Yang by a single stroke at Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando.

Yang (2-over 74) stumbled with a quadruple-bogey eight on the par-4 third hole, charged back to tie Hjorth on the 13th but fell behind again two holes later when Hjorth birdied the 15th.

Knotted in third place at minus-2 were Cristie Kerr (73) and In-Kyung Kim (70).

But probably the biggest winner was Na Yeon Choi, who after nailing down the title as the LPGA's top money earner Saturday, won its coveted Vare Trophy for low scoring average with a 2-under 70 Sunday, besting Kerr for the honor.
