CHAMPAIGN, Ill., Nov. 24 (UPI) -- D.J. Richardson scored 16 points to lead No. 19 Illinois past visiting Yale 73-47 Tuesday.
Demetri McCamey scored 11 for the Illini (5-1) and Mike Tisdale scored 10 plus a game-high 13 rebounds in the victory.
Illinois surged to a 30-17 lead at halftime and held the Bulldogs (1-3) to 28.6-percent shooting from the field.
Yale was within five points of the Illini with 5 minutes to play in the first half, but Illinois took off on a 10-2 run to close out the half.
The Bulldogs got to within 10 early in the second half, but Illinois once again stepped on the gas and moved out to a 50-33 advantage with 11:20 to play.
Greg Mangano led the Yale attack with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Austin Morgan added 12.
