COL BKB: Illinois 80, Maryland 76

NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Two free throws by Brandon Paul with 10 seconds left Friday wrapped up an 80-76 win for No. 16 Illinois over Maryland.

The Fighting Illini won the consolation game of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.

Illinois survived down the stretch after leading by 10 early in the second half. The Illini improved to 4-1, their loss having come in overtime Thursday against Texas in the tournament semifinals.

Demetri McCamey led Illinois with 20 points and Paul had 12. Illinois made 10-of-19 shots from 3-point range, three of them coming from McCamey.

Maryland (3-2) was led by Terrell Stoglin with 17 points and Jordan Williams with 15.

Paul's two critical free throws came after Stoglin had hit a 3-point shot with 7.1 seconds remaining.
