WASHINGTON, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Danny Briere scored the only goal in a shootout Saturday, handing the Philadelphia Flyers a 5-4 decision over Washington.
After Capitals goaltender Michal Neuvirth had stopped Claude Giroux earlier the shootout, Briere shoveled a soft shot that got between Neuvirth's pads. Alexander Semin's last shot at a Capitals equalizer clanged off the post to end the contest.
Mike Richards registered a goal and assist and Jeff Carter, Giroux and Andreas Nodl also tallied for Philadelphia, which won despite blowing a two-goal, third-period lead.
Brian Boucher stopped 33-of-37 shots for the Flyers.
Jason Chimera netted a goal and added an assist for Washington. Marcus Johansson, Nicklas Backstrom and Eric Fehr also scored in the loss.
Neuvirth ended up allowing four goals on 35 shots.
