MLB: Arizona 8, Colorado 4

PHOENIX, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Home runs by Stephen Drew, Adam LaRoche and Kelly Johnson helped the Arizona Diamondbacks rally from a four-run deficit Wednesday for an 8-4 win over Colorado.

The Rockies missed a chance to gain ground in the playoff chase, finishing the night three games behind San Diego in the National League West and three games behind Atlanta in the fight for the wild-card berth.

Colorado scored all its runs in the first inning on a three-run shot by Melvin Mora and a solo blast from Todd Helton.

Rodrigo Lopez (7-14) recovered from the rough start to turn in four shutout innings for the win, and four relievers combined to throw two-hit ball the rest of the way. Sam Demel struck out four over the final 1 2/3 innings for his second save.

Drew began the Arizona comeback with a solo homer in the first, LaRoche hit a two-run shot in the third and Johnson added a two-run blast in the eighth.

Chris Young gave Arizona a 5-4 lead in the fourth with a two-run single.

Ubaldo Jimenez (19-7) was unable to hold the lead and failed in his first bid to become a 20-game winner. He gave up five runs on five hits in four innings.
