NEW YORK, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Derrek Lee blasted a two-out, tie-breaking grand slam in the seventh inning Sunday and the Atlanta Braves bested the New York Mets 6-3.
Lee's slam off Manny Acosta allowed the Braves to complete a three-game sweep of the Mets at Citi Field at the start of a crucial road trip in which Atlanta hopes to gain ground on the National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies.
Atlanta maintained a three-game deficit in the NL East with the victory and entered the contest with a two-game lead over San Francisco in the NL wild-card chase.
Alex Gonzalez came through was a pair of key RBI singles, making a winner of Derek Lowe (14-12), who worked six effective innings, allowing only four hits for his third straight win.
Craig Kimbrel picked up his first career save with a scoreless ninth.
Mets starter R.A. Dickey (11-7) was tagged with the loss, charged with four runs on 10 hits.
David Wright connected for a two-run homer for the Mets.
