MLB: Detroit 9, Chicago White Sox 2

CHICAGO, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Austin Jackson ended a no-hit bid in the sixth inning Friday and then keyed a six-run seventh to bring the Detroit Tigers a 9-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The Tigers were without a hit against Edwin Jackson until Austin Jackson came through with a two-out single in the sixth. Four of the first five batters in the seventh then reached base against Edwin Jackson (9-12) before he was relieved by Scott Linebrink.

Alex Avila drove home the third and fourth runs of the inning with a double and Avila scored in front of Austin Jackson's second homer of the year.

The Tigers added three runs in the ninth, two of them coming in on doubles by Jhonny Peralta and Brandon Inge.

Chicago lost its fourth straight and missed out on a chance to gain ground on Minnesota in the American League Central race. The White Sox remained nine games behind the Twins with 15 to play.

Max Scherzer (11-10) got the victory by keeping Detroit close until the bats warmed up late in the game. He gave up two runs on two hits and struck out 11 over eight innings.
