New York managed only three hits and scored runs on a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk but took a 2-0 lead into the ninth.

Houston put together consecutive singles by Carlos Lee, Chris Johnson and Jason Michaels to account for one run and had runners on first and second with two away when Manzella came up as a pinch-hitter to face Takahashi.

Manzella looked at a called strike three to end the game and give Takahashi his second save.

Mike Pelfrey (13-7) got the win, going eight shutout innings with six hits and four strikeouts.

Nelson Figueroa (3-2) was the hard-luck loser, surrendering a lone earned run on three hits in seven innings.

David Wright provided the sacrifice fly in the first and Ruben Tejada drew the bases-loaded walk in the fourth.
