Longoria, Cano named AL Players of Week

NEW YORK, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria and New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano shared the American League's Player of the Week honors Monday.

Longoria hit .393 with three home runs, 12 runs batted in and six runs scored in the week ending Sunday. He had three multi-hit games while going 11-for-28.

Cano homered four times, including a grand slam, collected 13 RBI and scored seven times in seven games. He went 9-for-27 (.333) as the Yankees went 5-2.

It's the fifth time both players have won the honor.

Tampa Bay pitcher Matt Garza, Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia, Toronto first baseman Lyle Overbay and pitcher Shaun Marcum, Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko, Boston pitcher Clay Buchholz and Detroit pitcher Max Scherzer also received consideration.
