Top-seeded Jankovic ousted in Montreal

MONTREAL, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Jelena Jankovic was ousted by Czech qualifier Iveta Benesova Tuesday in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Benesova shocked Jankovic 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 while playing in her first event of the 2010 U.S. Open Series.

Benesova held serve twice and broke Jankovic to move in front 3-0 in the second set. After the Serbian star got to within 4-3, Benesova broke her again and then served out the match to advance to the third round.

Eighth-seed Vera Zvonareva dispatched Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-2, 6-1. Zvonareva was the runner-up to Serena Williams at Wimbledon last month.

No. 9 seed Li Na of China rallied to win the final six games of the second set and get by Australian qualifier Jarmila Groth 6-3, 6-2.
