MLB: Tampa Bay 6, Detroit 3

DETROIT, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Matt Joyce homered and David Price notched his 15th victory Monday in the Tampa Bay Rays' 6-3 victory over Detroit.

Joyce hit a solo shot in the third to give Tampa Bay the lead for good and drove in another run with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly as the Rays snapped a five-game losing streak.

Price (15-5) became the American League's first 15-game winner after going five innings, during which he struggled with his control but got out of jams. Price allowed four walks but struck out nine and yielded five hits to become the Rays' all-time winningest pitcher with 46 career victories.

The win pulled the Rays to within 1 1/2 games of the idle New York Yankees in the American League East.

Armando Gallaraga (3-5) absorbed the loss for the Tigers, surrendering four runs on five hits in five innings.
