MLB: New York Yankees 5, Boston 2

NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Ramiro Pena, subbing for the injured Alex Rodriguez, drove in a pair of runs Saturday to help the New York Yankees down Boston 5-2.

Pena was inserted into the line-up after Rodriguez was hit in the shin by a line drive during batting practice before the game and was scratched. Pena responded by driving in the tying run in the second inning and adding an RBI single in the sixth.

CC Sabathia (14-5) allowed two runs on six hits over eight innings, walking one and striking out four.

Mariano Rivera hurled a scoreless ninth to collect his 23rd save.

Red Sox starter Jon Lester (10-7) surrendered five runs on eight hits in six innings.

Victor Martinez socked a two-run homer for Boston.
