MLB: Boston 6, New York Yankees 3

NEW YORK, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Marco Scutaro's two-run double put Boston in front in the second Friday and Ryan Kalish had a two-run homer to lift the Red Sox over the New York Yankees 6-3.

Boston handed the Yankees their fourth loss in five games. New York missed a chance to increase its lead in the American League East and remained a game in front of Tampa Bay. The Red Sox climbed within five games of first place.

Mark Teixeira gave New York a 2-1 lead in the first with a two-run homer, but Boston struck back for three in the second.

Javier Vazquez (9-8) loaded the bases and then walked Jacoby Ellsbury to force in the tying run. Scutaro followed with his double that gave the Red Sox the lead for good.

Kalish contributed his homer in the sixth to finish the scoring.

Clay Buchholz (12-5) gave up the three runs on nine hits over 7 1/3 innings to get the win. Jonathan Papelbon allowed a walk in the ninth while picking up his 27th save in the opener of Boston's 10-game road trip.
