MLB: San Diego 6, Atlanta 4 (12 innings)

ATLANTA, July 21 (UPI) -- Nick Hundley came off the bench to deliver a two-run, two-out double in the 12th inning Wednesday, giving the San Diego Padres a 6-4 victory over Atlanta.

The Padres rallied with two runs to tie it in the ninth, and then emerged with a victory that moved them past the Braves by a half game for the best record in the National League.

Chris Denorfia singled to lead off the San Diego 12th against Kris Medlen (6-2) and then stole second while Tony Gwynn was swinging at strike three for the second out of the inning.

Oscar Salazar was walked intentionally and Hundley came in to bat for winning pitcher Tim Stauffer. Hundley doubled home both runners on a 1-1 pitch.

Stauffer (3-1) worked two innings to get the victory and Heath Bell came on to strike out the side in the bottom of the 12th for his 27th save.

Atlanta was protecting a 4-2 lead heading into the ninth, but Scott Hairston hit a one-out homer, after which Jerry Hairston singled and scored on a double by Yorvit Torrealba.

All of Atlanta's runs came in the third inning -- Chipper Jones driving in two of them with a single and Brian McCann launching a two-run homer.
