NEW YORK, July 16 (UPI) -- Greg LeMond had been subpoenaed to provide information on doping allegations against fellow cyclist Lance Armstrong, the New York Daily News said Friday.
LeMond, a three-time winner of the Tour de France, was asked to appear before a federal grand jury in Los Angeles July 30 as part of the government's investigation into the use of performance enhancing drugs, the newspaper said.
LeMond has been a vocal critic of Armstrong, who has won the Tour de France seven times. LeMond has questioned Armstrong's association with Italian doctor Michele Ferrari, who has admitted being a practitioner of blood doping.
"We are overjoyed," LeMond's wife Kathy told the Daily News. "I hope the truth will come out."
Floyd Landis, who was stripped of his 2006 Tour de France title after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, has also alleged that Armstrong was involved in doping.
French newspapers have attempted for years to implicate Armstrong in drug use. Armstrong has never tested positive during his years of cycling and has denied allegations of doping.
