Report: Subpoenas in Armstrong probe

NEW YORK, July 13 (UPI) -- Investigators have issued subpoenas in their probe of doping allegations against U.S. cyclist Lance Armstrong, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

Citing "several people briefed on the case," the newspaper said federal authorities looking into fraud and doping charges leveled by American cyclist Floyd Landis against the seven-time Tour de France champ and his associates have summoned witnesses to testify before a grand jury.

The Times said Landis, whose 2006 Tour de France title was stripped from him after a positive test for performance-enhancing drugs, is not believed to be among the witnesses subpoenaed.

Landis admitted to using banned substances throughout most of his career after forcefully denying the allegations and waging a long campaign to refute them.

He made the admission in May and asserted that former teammates, including Armstrong, joined him in taking the drugs.
