MLB: New York Yankees 8, Seattle 2

SEATTLE, July 11 (UPI) -- Mark Teixeira collected four hits and CC Sabathia pitched seven effective innings Sunday in the New York Yankees' 8-2 victory over Seattle.

Sabathia (12-3) nailed down a win in his eighth straight start -- a career best -- and limited the Mariners to one run on six hits, issuing only one walk. The veteran lefty has yielded one earned run or less in each of his last five starts.

Marcus Thames bashed a two-run homer for the Yankees, who won three of four games in their set against the Mariners.

New York goes into the All-Star break with a 56-32 record and a two-game lead in the American League East.

Ryan Rowland-Smith (1-9) absorbed the loss for Seattle, surrendering four earned on six hits and a walk in four innings.
