DETROIT, July 7 (UPI) -- Johnny Damon blasted an 11th inning homer and collected his 2,500th career hit Tuesday, powering the Detroit Tigers to a 7-5 win over Baltimore.
Miguel Cabrera socked a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, and Damon won it two innings later when he launched a pitch from David Hernandez (3-7) deep into the right field stands, scoring Austin Jackson in front of him.
Damon's milestone hit came in the third when he grounded a single under the glove of Orioles shortstop Julio Lugo, becoming the 92nd player in major league history to reach that level.
Ryan Perry (2-4) notched the win for throwing a scoreless 11th inning, helping the Tigers to retain their 1/2-game lead in the American League Central.
Detroit starter Armando Galarraga allowed three runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Nick Markakis went 3-for-6 with a three-run homer and Lugo chipped in with three hits and an RBI for the Orioles.
