NEW YORK, July 1 (UPI) -- NFL quarterback Chris Simms was arrested in New York City Thursday for driving under the influence of drugs, police said.
The New York Daily News says Simms, a backup quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, was pulled over on Houston Street in Lower Manhattan about 1:30 a.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
A police source told the newspaper Simms's speech was slurred, his eyes were red and his face appeared flushed during the arrest.
The third-round NFL Draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed with Tennessee in April. He had been released by the Denver Broncos after appearing in only two games last season.
His father, Phil Simms, is a CBS sportscaster and football analyst who led the New York Giants to victory in Super Bowl XXI in 1987.
