MLB: Kansas City 4, St. Louis 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 25 (UPI) -- Zack Greinke returned to his 2009 form Friday, holding St. Louis to six hits over eight innings in Kansas City's a 4-2 win over the Cardinals.

Greinke won the American League Cy Young Award last year with a 16-8 record, but he had already equaled his loss total from a year ago when he faced St. Louis Friday.

He held the Cardinals to a run on seven hits and struck out six in eight innings to improve to 3-8.

Greinke took the mound in the ninth in a bid to throw the fourth shutout of his career, but Ryan Ludwick reached on catcher's interference to start the inning and Colby Rasums doubled.

Joakim Soria then replaced Greinke and the Cardinals eventually scored twice before Soria nailed down his 18th save.

Jason Kendall, Billy Butler and Jose Guillen all had an RBI during a three-run third, starting the Royals on their way to a second straight victory.

Jeff Suppan (0-3) took the inter-league loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings.
