KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 22 (UPI) -- Jeff Francis and three relievers teamed up to hurl a six-hit shutout Saturday in the Colorado Rockies' 3-0 decision over Kansas City.
Francis (1-0), making only his second start since arm problems sidelined him in September 2008, was tough in a 6 1/3-inning stint, scattering five hits, walking two and fanning three.
Joe Beimel and Matt Belisle held the lead and Manny Corpas picked up his third save of the year with a perfect ninth.
Troy Tulowitzki broke a scoreless tie with a sixth-inning solo homer and the Rockies added a pair of runs in the seventh on Miguel Olivo's RBI triple and a run-scoring single from Ian Stewart.
Kyle Davies (3-3) was saddled with the hard-luck loss, allowing only Tulowitzki's homer in six innings of work. He issued no walks and struck out six.
