Werth hit his fifth home run of the season in the first inning in hanging the loss on Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse (0-2). Lohse allowed five runs -- three earned -- and nine hits in four innings.

St. Louis answered with a run in the second when David Freese reached third on Werth's error in right field and scored on a grounder that resulted in another Phillies error.

But Philadelphia increased its lead to 5-1 in its half of the inning on Ryan Howard's 2-run single.

The Phillies added a run in the fifth on Raul Ibanez's second homer of the season. Both teams scored in the seventh with the Cardinals RBI going to Albert Pujols and Philadelphia getting a run-scoring hit from Carlos Ruiz.
