CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 2 (UPI) -- Rory McIlroy set a course record Sunday, firing a 10-under 62 en route to an easy four-stroke win at the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, N.C.
The 20-year-old Ulsterman ended at 15-under-par 273 after making Friday's cut on a plus-one and then scorching the course for 16-under on the final two days, garnering his first PGA Tour title.
McIlroy bested the old Quail Hollow single-round record of 64 held jointly by Kirk Triplett, Bo Van Pelt and Rory Sabbatini.
With the win, McIlroy became the youngest PGA Tour winner since Tiger Woods earned his second title in 1996, also at age 20. His 62 Sunday was the lowest final-round score for a PGA winner this season, by two strokes.
Phil Mickelson (68) used a birdie on the final hole to grab second place at minus-11, while Angel Cabrera (68) ended one stroke further back at 10-under 278.
Brendon de Jonge (66) finished fourth at minus-9 while Van Pelt (68) ended in fifth, seven back at 280.
