NHL: Boston 2, Buffalo 1

BOSTON, April 19 (UPI) -- Patrice Bergeron's third-period goal Monday lifted the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 win over Buffalo and a 2-1 lead in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

On the game-winning goal, Mark Recchi got control of the puck along the endboards to the right of the net and fed a quick pass to Bergeron in the slot. The Boston forward one-timed a shot past Buffalo's Ryan Miller to give the Bruins the lead.

Dennis Wideman also assisted on the goal and added his own tally to tie the game 1-1 in the first period.

Tuukka Rask made 32 saves for the Bruins, who were outshot 33-29.

Mike Grier got Buffalo's only score less than 7 minutes into the game while Miller played well in defeat, stopping 27-of-29 shots.

Buffalo played without leading scorer Thomas Vanek, who suffered a leg injury in Game 2.

The Bruins will host Game 4 Wednesday.
