MLB: Atlanta 3, Chicago Cubs 2

ATLANTA, April 7 (UPI) -- Chipper Jones put Atlanta in front with a two-run, eighth-inning homer Wednesday and the Braves held on to edge the Chicago Cubs 3-2.

Atlanta won each of its first two meetings of the season with the Cubs, who wasted an excellent six-inning effort by starter Ryan Dempster.

The Braves faced a 2-1 deficit heading into the eighth, but Martin Prado doubled with one out off John Grabow and Jones then hit a 3-1 pitch over the wall in center.

That made a winner out of Peter Moylan, who worked the eighth inning and picked up the 12th victory of his five-year career. Billy Wagner came on in the ninth and pitched around a one-out single by Alfonso Soriano to get the save.

Dempster allowed a run on three hits and struck out nine. Jair Jurrjens started for Atlanta and gave up two unearned runs in five innings.
