NHL: Tampa Bay 2, Pittsburgh 0

PITTSBURGH, March 31 (UPI) -- Mike Smith turned aside 27 shots to register his second shutout of the year as the Tampa Bay Lighting downed Pittsburgh 2-0 Wednesday.

Steven Stamkos and Steve Downie found the net for the Bolts, who successfully killed off a five-minute Pittsburgh power play in the first period in the win, their third in five games.

Tampa Bay defenseman Matt Lashoff was whistled for a major penalty and a game misconduct for delivering a hit from behind to the Penguins' Ruslan Fedotenko at 2:22 of the initial stanza, but Pittsburgh couldn't score on the lengthy power play.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 15 saves for the Pens, who, with the loss, stayed one point ahead of idle New Jersey atop the Atlantic Division.
