Cubs release veteran IF Millar

MESA, Ariz., March 30 (UPI) -- Veteran infielder Kevin Millar was among four players cut by the Chicago Cubs, the team said Tuesday.

The 38-year-old Millar was given his release. He played with Toronto last season, batting .223 with seven homers and 29 RBI in 78 games with the Blue Jays. His 12-year career has included stints with Florida, Boston, Baltimore and Toronto.

In the span he has played in 1,427 games in which he batted .274 with 170 homers and 699 RBI.

The Cubs on Tuesday also optioned infielder Micah Hoffpauir and outfielder Sam Fuld to Triple-A Iowa and assigned catcher Chris Robinson to minor league camp.
