NHL: Dallas 4, Washington 3 (SO)

WASHINGTON, March 8 (UPI) -- Loui Eriksson's fifth-round shootout goal completed a Dallas comeback Monday, sparking the Stars to a 4-3 victory over Washington.

Eriksson beat Caps goalie Semyon Varlamov in the shootout, slamming on the brakes before sliding the puck into the net on his forehand, giving Dallas a much-needed win as they seek the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot.

Marty Turco stopped a career-high 49 shots in the Dallas win.

The Stars trailed 2-0 entering the third period, but exploded for three straight goals from Trevor Daley, James Neal and Brad Richards to take the lead.

Alexander Ovechkin broke a six-game goal drought with his 44th goal of the season with less than 4 minutes left, forcing a scoreless overtime period.

Tom Poti also had a goal for the Capitals, who saw their six-game home winning streak snapped.
